French Press Goodness
So I got a new French press tonight and i’ve been dying to shoot and drink some coffee. So I combined the two and had some fun in the kitchen/dining room. I grabbed a bunch of stuff from my studio and started to play with different concepts and configurations. Here’s a shot of what I used to get these shots. My big thing was I wanted to showcase the French press but also highlight my ember mug (which is amazing by the way).
What you’re seeing here is my tube that contains textured backgrounds, my camera, some costco cookies, my wifey’s muffins, some old coffee beans, crumpled up construction paper, some creamer in a glass bottle and some letter press type blocks.
This was the basic composition I landed on. Under the table is my panda dog. I added a napkin for texture and I wanted the elements to lead the eye into the cup and press. I played around with a couple other things but end up cutting the textured background and the letter blocks.
This was the first shot of the series wanted to show the function of the press. Playing with the light I let the background go black and really wanted the focus on the press.
I can smell this shot. The steam need a little bit of a boost so I shopped some in to give it some punch. I love how the ember light pulsates on the mug when its filled with hot liquid and wanted to really highlight that feature.
This is the final shot and my favorite. It feels complete and focused. It felt good to create for the sake of creating and I really like this series I want to start doing more of these based off an item, color, mood, or theme. It’s great practice and helps me stay on my game. What have you created lately? Fire up your camera and get going!
