A Touch of Gold
I’ve been working like a madman the past few weeks and the opportunity came up to do a permanent piece for Fluid’s new Roasting Lab in Michigan City and I couldn’t say yes fast enough. I need to get away from the computer and work with my hands every now and then. It helps recharge my batteries and gives me a mental break from the deadlines and pressure of the digital life.
Working on this 8 foot piece was fun. I knew I wanted to do a large grouping of monsters. I stayed somewhat close to my sketch with a few modifications. The overall concept is a cup spilling coffee (liquid gold) on some monsters that are trying to get it. I love the symbolism and playfulness of the piece that is scattered with pops of gold metallic spray paint.
Stop in to Fluid and check it out this Friday for their soft opening (Ribbon cutting Dec. 22). My work is currently up on the walls of the Valpo location and most of it is already sold, be sure to stop in and check them out and pick up a coffee and piece for the holidays. Can’t thank Chuck and Alison enough for supporting my art and always being so welcoming. They are great supporters of the creative community as well and all around awesome people.
